Job summary

The Phlebotomist will collect blood and other diagnostic samples, correctly identify and label specimens, maintain hygiene and infection-control standards, and coordinate with the laboratory team for timely processing. Freshers with appropriate training and good practical knowledge are encouraged to apply.

Key responsibilities

• Perform blood collection through venipuncture and capillary collection using proper techniques
• Collect samples from adults, elderly patients, and children where required
• Verify patient identity and test requirements before sample collection
• Properly label, store, handle, and transport samples according to laboratory protocols
• Ensure accurate collection of blood, urine, stool, and other diagnostic specimens where applicable
• Maintain proper hygiene, sterilization, infection-control, and biomedical waste disposal practices
• Follow safety procedures while handling needles, blood, and biological specimens
• Maintain records of sample collection and patient details accurately
• Coordinate with laboratory technicians, reception staff, doctors, and other healthcare professionals
• Explain the sample-collection process to patients and help reduce patient anxiety
• Handle difficult veins and repeat collections professionally when required
• Monitor and maintain adequate stock of vacutainers, needles, syringes, gloves, cotton, sanitizers, and other collection materials
• Maintain cleanliness and readiness of the sample collection area
• Assist with home sample collection when assigned
• Ensure collected samples reach the laboratory within the required time and under appropriate storage conditions
• Follow all internal SOPs and quality-control procedures of Nejat Labs
• Immediately report sample collection errors, patient incidents, needle-stick injuries, or other safety concerns to the supervisor
• Maintain patient confidentiality and professional conduct at all times

Required qualification

• DMLT – Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology
• BMLT – Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Technology
• Certificate/Diploma in Phlebotomy
• Relevant laboratory technician or healthcare qualification with practical phlebotomy training

Candidates must have adequate practical knowledge of blood collection and specimen handling.

Experience

0–5 years. Freshers with strong practical phlebotomy skills may apply. Experienced candidates with diagnostic centre, hospital, pathology laboratory, or home-collection experience will be preferred.

Required skills

• Good venipuncture and blood collection skills
• Knowledge of vacutainers and correct order of draw
• Understanding of specimen labeling, storage, and transportation
• Knowledge of infection-control practices and biomedical waste management
• Patient-friendly communication; ability to handle nervous or difficult patients calmly
• Attention to detail and accuracy; basic computer and data-entry knowledge
• Ability to work efficiently during busy collection hours
• Responsible, punctual, disciplined, and professional attitude

Preferred skills

• Experience in home sample collection
• Ability to collect samples from children and elderly patients
• Familiarity with laboratory software/LIS
• Knowledge of pre-analytical sample errors (hemolysis, incorrect labeling, insufficient quantity, improper storage)
• Ability to communicate in Hindi; local languages are an advantage
